Yesterday, Sunday, August 17th, 2025 my Son Jeremy, Grandson Kaden and I went out to Mission Raceway Park for the BC Historic race meeting.

Kaden, just turned 17, drove his '06 MINI Cooper S to the race track, I drove the S, with Kaden alongside, on the Parade Laps at mid-day...and Jeremy drove us back to Maple Ridge.

I first got into Classic Minis when Jeremy & I built a Mini for him as he graduated high school in 1993. It was a complete refresh with needed steel, an MG Metro !275 engine over a pre-A+ transmission with pressurized layshaft.

I borrowed Jeremy's Mini for the Sports Car Club of BC Race Drivers School at Mission Raceway on the original River's Edge Road Course.

Jeremy's older Brother Tyler bought a little used 1980 Mini 1000 in 1995 and I bought it from him in 1999. That Mini went on as POOH and after restoration and upgrade with 1380 power gained a trailer known as Hunny Pot.

Jeremy ordered a new MINI Cooper S and took delivery of the '04 S in November 2003. His Classic Mini was sold on and today resides in Clackamas County, Oregon.

My current 1973 Leyland Australia Mini Window Van, named ROO, may be joining a local private collection of Minis. I bought the Window Van in early 2010 and used it for extensive travels in all Australian States...from the Frost in Tarraleah in Tasmania and Guyra in New South Wales, to the scortching +40C heat of Western Australia's Kimberley. From Cairns across the north to Katherine, Darwin, Derby and Broome. Down the Indian Ocean Coast to Perth, Freemantle. Inland to the Goldfields, across the Eyre Highway straight to Port Augusta and Adelaide. Around the south coast and the Great Ocean Road to Melbourne then off to Lakes Entrance and around to the Pacific Ocean. Into Canberra and north through NSW to Toowoomba in Queensland. we also got inland to Alice Springs, Uluru and Kata Tjuta Our time in Tasmania saw us get all around from Stanley, to Strahan to Darwin for Mini Fest, Port Arthur, Swansea, St. Helens, Launceston, Georgetown and back to Devenport. On our return north we got to Lightning Ridge

ALCAN 5000 Summer Rally 2022

My Co-driver Micke Pettersson and I brought ROO the Aussie Mini Window Van to the Finish of the 10-day/5,040 Mile rally in Jasper, Alberta on September 1st, 2022.

After blown idler gear bearings took us out of the 2018 event (held every 4th year) we had to reenter and Finish!

Body work and paint was completed. Front & rear sub frames installed...after new steering rack and front to rear fuel & brake lines. Fuel tank installed. Front & rear suspension installed, steering column installed, new brake & clutch master cylinders installed.

Lots more to do before certification & licensing next spring.

Locking the steering rack in place after it was aligned with the steering column. The switch panel is a hint to some of the colour that will be seen as the build progresses.

Front suspension is fully adjustable with Ripspeed hi-los and adjustable lower arms & tie-rods. Dampers are GAZ adjustables.

Had quite a time installing the new fuel tank...but a little work with the dremel on the floor (related to angle of neck) and canting with a few washers for spacers and the neck is in the middle of the opening. (1961 floor, much newer fuel tank)

Wheels are temporary shop steelies to be replaced with 4.5"x10" alloys ala 'Minilite' wearing A008s.

A subsequent buyer has contacted me to get information about the modded 1980 Mini 1000 that I had sold.

I gave him some information about the history of the Mini - my older son was the 2nd owner, I was the 3rd...& the build and a little about its awards & travels.

Alfred the new owner has put his stamp on the Mini...it is in good hands.
