First MG was a '71 Midget. Bought it in 1972 when I was 17. Second was a '69 MGB. I'm 6'3" and 230 lbs (on a really good day). Believe me, the fit in the B is better. Owned the second car from 1977 through 1987 when I decided to switch over to Corvettes. Back to MG in 2008 with my current LE. Would love a CB GT, but haven't convinced the boss yet...

Three kids, all grown and living all across the mainland. Wife and I are happy in the Pacific Northwest where road trips are epic!

CS-130 Alternator Install

Posted on: Thursday January 5, 2017

Installed a CS-130 alternator in place of the Lucas alternator which became damaged when the pulley came loose. There appeared to be a defect in its manufacture as the pulley was physically separated in half and held together by the retaining nut. My understanding is that these pulleys are supposed to be tack welded to form one piece. The CS-130 alternator was purchased from 123Ignitionusa LLC and came ready to install. The directions are very easy to understand and the entire process took...

Carburetor Overflow Lines

Posted on: Sunday April 28, 2013

IMG 0990

Installed carburetor overflow lines, which had long been missing. This resulted in a safety condition because the carburetor float blows would dump gas on top of the exhaust manifold if they overflowed. I evaluated two different repairs before choosing the overflow lines. I read where the overflows have been routed to the adsorption canisters. That may be a good idea, but the thought of dumping raw gas at 2-3 psi into the canisters if an overflow occurred did not sit well with me. I thought...

Front Brake Lines

Posted on: Friday April 19, 2013

I replaced the front brake lines because, for the life of me, I could not figure out when they were installed. I've owned the car since 2008 and I have not replaced them. This car came with great records and I find nothing that says they were done prior to my purchase. Surely they can't be original... I used Classic Gold Brake hoses (part no. GBH172) provided by Moss (part no. 180-885). Bled the entire system with Valvoline 3 & 4 dot fluid and my ever-so-handy Eezibleed.

Brake Light Relay

Posted on: Friday April 19, 2013

Schematic from Dave DuBois website

I installed the relay IAW the directions provided by Dave DuBois of this website. Of note, I did not use the 0.47 microfarad capacitor as I could not locate one for a reasonable cost and he lists it as an optional component. This relay goes across the switch terminals and I will install it if I ever have to replace the switch again. Much easier to install if the switch is out of the car. I mounted the relay on the deck just inboard of the brake and clutch pedal box.
