HI, New to Minis. I'm at heart a Triumph guy. However, always liked the Minis. Looking at a 1967 Morris Cooper S out on the west coast. How do I tell if this is an authentic Cooper S? Engine block is red, most I see are green and it has one carburetor Think the Cooper S should have two?? What are other tell tale signs I should look for on a True Cooper S.. Don't know engine block # or Vin # yet. Do these tell me anything relevant? Please let me know. May check car out this week.

Check the vin/ car number/ Chassis No - Should start with C-A2S7......... Austin or K-A2S4........... Morris. The engine number should start with 9FSAY......... 1275 cc Cooper S engine. However these number plates could be forgeries . Buy a book such as John Parnell's "Original Mini Cooper" to get a comprehensive description. Then Message me for any questions. A red engine with single carburetter does not sound correct at all. Also the body should be a Mark 1 with external hinges, twin tanks, chrome on the front doors, oil cooler, 120 mph speedo etc.

Try to get BMHT cert on the cooper s.. from about 6 quid.. This is BUYER BEWARE as they are quite a few FAKE OZ cooper s. in California. They were imported by EX mini dealer in LA about 10-12 years ago... Vin starts on MK1. as YKG2S2. and Mk11 as YKG2S4.. vin number on plain jane minis starte a YKG2SL.. easy to change the last digit.. later bill cox
