Hi I'm new to this group but not new to classic Minis. I'm the North Bay Rep for the Mini Owners of America San Francisco and have driven to 6 Mini Meet West gatherings, (2010 at Penticton, BC, Canada; 2011 - Lake Tahoe; 2013 - Bend, OR; 2016 - San Diego; 2017 - Santa Rosa, CA; 2018 - Hood River, OR). The modern MINI Cooper S was fun, I owned it for about 4 years and rolled up 85K miles on it, including MMWs 2010 & 2011, but I decided that I wanted a classic Mini and so I purchased one from a guy in the UK and imported it in March of 2012. At that time I had already sold my '05.
I wanted a Clubman saloon, which are quite rare in North America and if you find one, nearly all of them are either from New Zealand or the Aussie Leylands (like Rick Higgs' window van above, who I first met at Penticton 8 years ago). Mine is a rare piece being a home market Clubby. Like Rick's Leyland, mine is also RHD which proves to be ideal in our LHD world for back road running. Our only disadvantage comes with trying to pass cars but with my 998cc, I don't really have the power to pass too many people anyway...lol
A few months ago I purchased a Canadian-export only 1982 Triumph TR8 with the fuel injected 3.5 L Rover V8 and 5 spd. I've been spending time with it but took the Clubby out for a nice run a couple weeks ago... I follow various Mini-related sites online, both here and abroad. I look forward to following this site and communicating with more Mini owners...
