We need help in determining the correct value of cylinder compression on a 1979 998 classic Mini. For the life of us we can not find what the correct values should be. So far we have determined that we have 140 psi across all cylinders when tested dry. Will be testing wet tomorrow. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Perfect...wet test should see increase in all cylinders. But off the top the engine appears to have good compression. Key thing...it is desireable to have readings that are within a few percentage points of each other.

Thanks Rick. It was great to have consistent readings but finding what it should be has proved very difficult. Will carry out the wet compression testing and see where that leads us.

There are many factors that can affect the compression test results...as a result people get different readings. However the most important is comparable results cylinder to cylinder.

A leakdown test is another indicator of engine function.
