Ball VS. Plunger oil pressure relief valve

Hello, I have a A+ Mini block with the ball instead of the plunger for the relief valve. I am getting 90+ lbs of oil pressure at idle. The spring is the same length as those used with the plunger relief valve and therefore the total length of ball and spring is longer than plunger and spring. Does the ball require a shorter spring than the plunger, or a spring different tension?

Thanks for your help with this.

Larry
