Update: May 11th, 2012

Racers, I just wanted to share with you the latest Mini Challenge news. As of today, there are 50 Minis on the preliminary entry list! You can check out who's on the list at this link:
http://www.canamminichallenge.com/entry-list

2012 Racing: A number of Mini racers will be attending Mid-Ohio June 21st - 24th, for the SVRA Vintage Grand Prix event. This year there will be a special "British Invasion" feature race, so we expect a good turnout of Minis to contend for the top podium spots. A post-race report will be uploaded to the website soon after the race.

Also a heads up that we are currently working on expanding the Mini Challenge website to include car pictures and driver bios. We really want to showcase the amazing cars and drivers attending the event. Watch your inbox for a sign up request form and more details.

Best regards,

Rachel Nelson
Event Chair

Thank you for your input. I've spent years acquiring the parts and reassembing them to the point where I have to consider the registration process. I have been trying discrete inquiries but Minis are not plentiful in Canada and an international forum seems much more fertile for such an endeavour. Naturally it would seem foolish to advertise if I were doing something illegal and I naturally assumed that fellow Mini enthusiasts would recognize the fact that this is no foolish endeavour. I don't care whether any legal repercussions arise from this. After all I've been through so far I feel ready. Bring it on. There are no irregularities or illegalities involved in my restortation and I would prefer to have period correct number plates. I might be remiss in viewing this legal warning as sullying this topic, so I thank you again for your input and continue with my plea unabated. The car in question has an external tank and a magic wand shifter and the Seven logo fits the holes in the door. If any readers have appropriate numbers and haven't been put off by this thread, I'm still open to negotiation.
Sincerely, Martin Beckman

im not having a go at you,far from it, i'm all for keeping minis on the road.

i dont know the law concerning vehicle identity in the states, but in the uk in your position, with no identity numbers on your mini. (legaly) you would have to apply to the driver vehicle licencing agency and prove the exact age of the vehicle (impossible without identity numbers)that the vehicle isnt stolen (impossible without etc etc ) jump through hoops for months, if not years, and then, if you were lucky, you would be issued with a non transferable Q registration number (making the car all but valueless)

im sure a lot of people in that situation would just get a set off chassis plates and a reg number of a scrap car of a similar year and model and get the pop rivet gun out.

BUT THEY WOULD BE VERY FOOLISH TO PUBLISH THE FACT ON A PUBLIC FORUM , i personaly know of at least one person in the UK mini community who has been prosecuted because of this. it used to be common in the UK for people to advertise chassis plates for sale, but this is now illegal.

you can THINK what ever you want, but if you put it online sooner or later someone will read it, that you dont want to.

(Q reg numbers are handed out in the uk only to insurance wright offs that have been put back on the road, some personal imports, stolen recovereds, reshelled with a second hand shell etc etc, so by association they are usualy all deemed as "dodgy" and most people wouldent buy them, there are also insurance implications as some companys wont insure them)

sorry if it seems like i've a broom handle up my ass, i can assure you i dont!(see BRITAX MINI COOPER REPLICA for confirmation!)
like i say i dont know what the law says in the states, but you wouldent want to upload anything that might incriminate you would you ? good luck whatever you do.

Greetings from Calgary,

My early Traveller was purchased without body numbers. It has the external tank & magic wand shifter setting it at about 51 years old. The wings (inner and outer) had been removed for rust reasons. Being stripped, a thorough examination was possible and revealed no clues to its identity.

I personally don't let any Mini go to scrap with tags on it and have serial numbers for two Mk3 Minis which I would rather use for a newer saloon if necessary. Does anyone else save the tags and find themselves with unused 1961 (or so) numbers? I would even consider removing them myself from a wrecking yard if I had a location.

Keeping my fingers crossed, Martin

Yes Skye, but the local BMW dealership will not perform this recall. Apparently, their service technicians don't know how to turn a wrench or screw driver on a Mini Cooper.8-) That is b.s..

News: BMW recalls MINI models owing to water-pump fault

BMW recalls MINI models owing to water-pump fault

Hot off the press:

"Around 29,868 MINI Cooper S and MINI John Cooper Works cars are being recalled in Britain following the detection of a potential fault in an engine water pump.

The worldwide recall applies to 2006–11 MINI Cooper S and John Cooper Works models following internal quality-control checks that spotted a fault with an additional water pump that is fitted in each vehicle.

BMW said in a statement that the water pump is drawing residual heat out of the turbocharger after the engine has been switched off, which prevents carbon build-up of the oil in the bearing.

Under high operating temperatures, an electro-migration can occur at the circuit board installed in the additional water pump.

The company added that the electro-migration is caused by plastic additives in conjunction with high temperatures and can lead to a failure of the additional water pump.

This, in turn, can lead to a failure of the additional water pump or smouldering, and the possibility of fire cannot be ruled out.

BMW maintains that there have been no accidents or injuries related to this issue, although four cases of fires have been confirmed globally, including one in the UK.

MINI customers are to be offered a free replacement water pump in a procedure that is said to take around an hour.
