Today I finally got Dan's car back on the street, drove about 5 miles in and around Dan's neighborhood in Fort Worth. It turned out to be a gap of only .010" to get the desired dwell of 80. It idles and runs smootly at low throttle, but I'm getting carb backfire if I give it much gas. I just added a Weber 32/36 DGV downdraft carburetor, intake manifold, linkage & air filter and suspect it may need leaner jets

It's obvious Cecil spent a lot of time, effort and money making this car very nice. You can see from the pictures what a good job he did on the interior, for example, and look at the Dayton wire wheels! Anyway, my purpose is to try and make incremental improvements. Yesterday I put new under-dash liners in. I had forgotten how ill-fitting the stock parts were, but at least now it has a hard plastic shell and won't deteriorate like the old cardboard ones did.
